About Us
Mission Statement
Washington NORML's mission is to move
public opinion sufficiently to achieve the repeal of marijuana
prohibition so that the responsible use of cannabis by adults is no
longer subject to penalty.
Washington NORML is an officially
recognized affiliate of NORML, The National Organization for the Reform
of Marijuana Laws, located in Washington D.C.
Washington NORML pursues a
program intended to educate the public; lobby local, state and federal
officials; or otherwise build support for ending the criminal
prohibition of marijuana.
NORML can not introduce
legislation in your state. Nor can any other non-profit advocacy
organization. Only your state representatives, or in some cases an
individual constituent (by way of their representative; this is known as
introducing legislation ‘by request’) can do so. NORML can — and does —
work closely with like-minded politicians and citizens to reform
marijuana laws, and lobbies on behalf of these efforts. But
ultimately the most effective way — and the only way — to successfully
achieve statewide marijuana law reform is for local stakeholders and
citizens to become involved in the political process and to make the
changes they want to see.
Designed
to educate people in Washington State about the truth of cannabis hemp
prohibition, Washington NORML is primarily a political call to arms - a show of
hands - to activate awareness, and vote for the end, of cannabis hemp
prohibition at the local, state, and federal level.
Following the traditions, spirit, and advice of the largest and most successful pro marijuana lobby in the world, The National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, we
are uniquely positioned to highlight the overall general public
acceptance for male hemp plant farming and female hemp plant adult
recreational use, as well as the sustained medical approval for cannabis
hemp in the Evergreen State of Washington.
Founded in 2007, the local, statewide and national support for our Chapter has been unexpected and generous.
We are all in this together - giving shape to a function of democracy that can no longer be ignored.
This
is not an original idea or a proprietary secret, it is an organization
of like-minded people who want to make a difference and be a part of
progressive and sensible change in our community. A change that
is affecting a modern revolution across the county, the end to
prohibition of cannabis hemp.
